About PLUS ULTRA

The Podcast

PLUS ULTRA takes its name from a motto. At the edge of the known world, a boundary line: the Pillars of Hercules. On ancient maps, beyond the strait of Gibraltar where the Atlantic begins, cartographers would write two words in Latin: *Non Plus Ultra*—nothing beyond. Go no further.

But when the New World was discovered, the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V struck a word from the inscription. Non plus ultra became plus ultra. Further beyond. The boundary was not a fact of geography—it was a failure of imagination.

This podcast lives in that inversion. Each episode is an investigation into one of five intellectual territories: Western mysticism and esotericism, the philosophy of consciousness, the history of ideas and civilization, Christianity and sacred tradition, and Jungian depth psychology. These are the edges of what we claim to understand. These are the territories where the boundary dissolves.

PLUS ULTRA is a solo narrative podcast. There are no guests, no back-and-forth. Each episode is a sustained meditation on a single figure, text, or question—a descent into depth. The goal is not to explain these ideas away but to let them live, to show you what they look like from the inside.

The Host

JCVC — The name is a cipher by design. This podcast lives outside the attention economy. There is no patreon, no sponsorship, no personal brand to build. The ideas are the only subject. The voice is anonymous so that what matters is what is said, not who is saying it.

Territories

Western Mysticism & Esotericism

The hard problem of consciousness and the traditions that circled it centuries before the question was named.

History of Ideas & Civilization

The intellectual and spiritual foundations of Western thought. From ancient Egypt to the Renaissance to modernity.

Christianity & Sacred Tradition

The mystical depth of Christian theology. The Desert Fathers, the Mystics, the theology of darkness.
